There are signs that the US president is becoming more inclined to provide more active support to Ukraine

US President Donald Trump was very enthusiastic and inspired by Ukraine’s recent campaign to strike targets in Russia, the Financial Times reported , citing two sources familiar with closed-door talks at the last G7 summit.
Senior Ukrainian officials told reporters that Ukraine’s successful strikes have prompted Trump to decide to tighten sanctions on Russia’s energy sector, and there are signs that the US president is becoming more inclined to provide more active support to Ukraine, they said.
Ukrainian officials told reporters that Trump is likely willing to pressure Russia to end the war, but they are skeptical that the US president will follow through on his promises.
The publication’s interlocutors added that after meeting with Zelensky on the sidelines of the G7 summit, Trump became more inclined to supply Ukraine with Patriot interceptor missiles, as well as to grant Ukraine a license to produce American missiles.
One of the Ukrainian officials said that everything will depend on further negotiations between the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, and US representatives, during which the details will be agreed.
The Ukrainian official also told reporters that Zelensky and Trump had a long conversation over dinner at the G7 summit, during which the US president admitted he was impressed by Ukraine’s recent military achievements.
The publication recalled that Trump often changes his mind about how the Russian-Ukrainian war is developing. According to the publication’s sources, the US president’s unpredictability has led to Russia losing faith in Trump’s ability to help Russian dictator Vladimir Putin achieve his maximalist goals in Ukraine.
Trump advised Zelensky to act bolder towards Russia
Earlier, Kyiv Independent, citing a high-ranking Ukrainian official, reported that US President Donald Trump, in a private conversation, advised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to act “bolder” towards Russia.
According to the official, Trump was talking about how he didn’t really believe Vladimir Putin would do anything without pressure.
