US President Donald Trump declared the United States’ victory in two world wars and announced the dates for the celebration.

As Trump stated on his Truth Social network, the United States did far more than any other country to win World Wars I and II. 

“I am renaming May 8 as Victory Day in World War II and November 11 as Victory Day in World War I. We won both wars, no one was next to us in strength, courage or military brilliance, but we never celebrate anything – it’s because we no longer have leaders who know how to do it! We will start celebrating our victories again,” he said.

Victory Day is Putin’s sacred date

As UNIAN reported, Victory Day on May 9 holds special significance for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. It is not only a national holiday, but also a key element of his political legitimacy and propaganda.

Putin uses the day to showcase Russia’s military might, strengthen national unity, and promote the idea of ​​Russia’s “historic mission.” The parade on Red Square is a symbol of the invincibility of the state and its army.

In 2025, the parade on Red Square will mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II. Representatives from more than 20 countries are expected to participate, including Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, who will replace Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The presidents of Belarus, Serbia and Slovakia have also confirmed their presence.

Preparations for the parade are being carried out under heightened security due to fears of possible attacks, including the use of drones. Experts say that even the flight of an unarmed drone over Red Square during the event, especially in the presence of high-ranking guests such as Xi Jinping, could be a serious blow to Putin’s image.
