The Biden administration has been moving weapons to Ukraine from a base in Alexandroupolis, Greece.

The US government has ordered an urgent review of the feasibility and necessity of continuing to operate the NATO base in Alexandroupolis, Greece, through which military aid was being delivered to Ukraine , Democtratia writes .

The base is located on the Aegean coast of Thrace, near the Black Sea straits, and has been used by the US and NATO to move forces into Eastern Europe. It has also been used by the Biden administration as a transit point for American aid, including military aid, to Ukraine.

However, now, the publication notes, the base may become unnecessary, since the Trump administration does not intend to continue providing assistance to Ukraine, especially after negotiations with Russia in Saudi Arabia, which US representatives assessed as productive.

The publication notes that the possible closure of the base will please Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has long sought this. It will also satisfy Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who considered it a threat to Turkey’s monopoly over the Bosphorus Strait.
