Kellogg recalled that the United States also held elections during the war.

Holding presidential elections is a sign of a democratic state, but Ukraine should not do this until the fighting stops, as this contradicts the country’s Constitution.

This was stated by US President Donald Trump’s Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg on the NewsMax TV channel .

“The Ukrainians cannot hold elections right now because it is against their constitution. The Ukrainians should not hold them until the fighting stops, but we will reach a point where they will have to hold elections. And that is a sign of a healthy democracy,” he said.

Kellogg stressed that the US is not hinting that President Volodymyr Zelensky should step down as head of state. He explained that holding elections even during a war speaks to the stability of democracy in the country. Trump’s special representative recalled that the US also held elections during a war (in 1944 during World War II – UNIAN).
