US President Donald Trump is building a luxurious ballroom in the White House, the cost of which is estimated at $200 million. According to the White House website , the costs of this project will be covered by private donors, as well as Trump himself.
Construction on the ballroom is set to begin in September and is expected to be completed “well” before Trump’s term ends.
The new ballroom will be built on the site of the current East Wing. The total area of the structure will be about 89 thousand square meters, and the capacity will be 650 people, which is three times more than the current hall of the East Wing, designed for only 200 people.
Construction plans shared by the White House show gold chandeliers hanging in a brightly lit, opulently decorated room.
“For 150 years, presidents, administrations and White House staff have dreamed of having a large event space on the White House complex that could accommodate far more guests than is currently permitted,” White House chief of staff Susie Wiles said, adding that Trump intends to “solve this problem for future administrations and the American people.”
Trump previously said that he was “going to build a ballroom that the White House has been dreaming about for probably a hundred years.”
