US President Donald Trump said that Russia and Ukraine will observe a three-day ceasefire on May 9, 10 and 11.
“I am pleased to announce the introduction of a three-day ceasefire (May 9, 10 and 11) in the war between Russia and Ukraine,” he wrote on Truth Social.
According to him, Russia is celebrating Victory Day these days, but Ukraine was also an important part of World War II.
“This ceasefire will include a suspension of all active activity, as well as a prisoner exchange of 1,000 prisoners from each country. This request was made directly by me, and I greatly appreciate the agreement from President Vladimir Putin and President Volodymyr Zelensky. Let’s hope this is the beginning of the end of a very long, deadly and difficult war,” Trump said.
He claims that negotiations to end the war are ongoing, adding:
“And every day we get closer and closer.”

According to him, the US “tried to play the role of mediator” in the negotiation process, but this did not yield any concrete results. Rubio emphasized that America is ready to continue to play “this role”, but only if it is productive.
