US President Donald Trump has announced an increase in the US military contingent in Poland, linking this decision to his trusting relationship with Polish leader Karol Nawrocki. This was reported on Donald Trump’s official account on the social network Truth Social .

In his statement, Trump emphasized that the sending of additional forces is the result of his personal support for Navrotsky during the election campaign.

“Based on the successful election of the current Polish President, Karol Nawrocki, whom I was pleased to support, and our relationship with him, I am pleased to announce that the United States will send an additional 5,000 troops to Poland,” the American president wrote.

It is worth noting that Karol Nawrocki officially took office as President of Poland in August 2025, after winning the election in June of that year. Trump’s announcement of the troop deployment came a few months after these events.

US-Poland relations

As we will recall, on May 13, Poland was surprised by the unexpected decision of the US to cancel the planned deployment of American troops in the country. However, as it turned out, the warning came a few days earlier.

According to Politic, the Polish military was informed of the Pentagon’s decision a week earlier. However, as the publication explains, the message got stuck in a secret email of the Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, General Wiesław Kukula.

Earlier, the Polish National Security Bureau reported that the United States has already transferred to Poland more than 20% of the planned number of soldiers and about 70% of military equipment, envisaged as part of the changes in the rotation of American troops in Europe. The rotation of US forces, which is being carried out by the 1st Cavalry Division from Fort Hood in Texas, is currently underway.

The agency concluded that after the withdrawal from Germany, the 2nd US Cavalry Regiment could replace part of the tank brigade group that was previously planned to be deployed in Poland.
