US President Donald Trump has announced the introduction of “gold cards” for wealthy foreigners that will give them the right to live and work in the United States. Such a card can be purchased for $5 million, CNN writes .

“I was in favor of tariffs and enriching the country, and that’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to do something different that’s going to be very, very helpful. We’re going to sell a gold card. You have a green card, and this is a gold card. We’re going to price that card at about $5 million, and it’s going to give you the benefits of the green card, and it’s also going to be a path to citizenship. And wealthy people are going to come to our country and buy that card,” Trump explained.

The card will replace the government’s EB-5 immigrant investor visa program, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said.

“Of course, they will have to go through a test to make sure that they are excellent global citizens of the world class,” the minister stressed.

Trump announced that sales of the cards would begin in about two weeks, suggesting that millions of the cards would be sold, and stressing that “legally, it’s perfectly legal.”
