Trump and Vance could destroy the world order, which Russia and China will take advantage of, – Ben Wallace

According to Wallace, the United States is almost openly saying that the sovereignty of other countries does not matter to Washington.

US President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance are confident that Russia is not a threat. They also believe that the United States should leave NATO and seize Greenland one way or another. This direction of American foreign policy could greatly change the world.

This opinion was expressed by former British Defense Minister Ben Wallace in his column for The Telegraph .

According to him, the US almost openly says that the sovereignty of other countries does not matter to Washington. The oppression of opponents, judges and a free press is acceptable in the name of “America First” and facts are fiction. This is the course the Trump administration is pursuing, Wallace believes.

The former British Defense Secretary recalled that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and Trump are discussing a deal to extract minerals from occupied Ukrainian territories, and that Five Eyes intelligence is being passed on to NATO’s enemies. The United States is also withdrawing its troops from European bases and gradually distancing itself from Europe.

Wallace warned that Trump’s “America First” policies would not actually benefit ordinary Americans. He said the only ones who would benefit from them were Russia, China, and extremists around the world who have for decades made the United States their number one target.

Moreover, Putin has not suddenly decided that Trump is his new best friend, Wallace noted. Instead, the Russian dictator intends to benefit from the “warm” relations with the United States and then exploit it.

The former British defence secretary stressed that Russia has been stoking the divisions we see today for more than a decade. For example, during the Black Lives Matter unrest in 2020, Russian “troll factories” deliberately amplified both extremes of the debate on social media.

Across the ocean, China will rejoice at the potential destruction of the old world order, Wallace added, saying that everything that made America great and rich after World War II could be undone by Trump.

In addition, the former British Defense Minister expressed hope that Trump will finally come to his senses and understand that his approach is destroying the world order. He believes that the US President should understand that if he brands all his friends as “freeloaders” and demands “repayment of debts”, this will create wedges between allies.

However, Wallace believes that a soft approach should be taken with Trump, as is the case with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who says the US president “needs to be gently nurtured, not scolded”.
