German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz held a telephone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump. Berlin government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius has announced this.
According to him, the main topic of the politicians’ conversation was the war in Ukraine. Both Merz and Trump agree that hostilities must end as soon as possible.
“Furthermore, any peace agreement must be reached with the consent of all NATO partners. Following the U.S. elections, a ‘new sense of urgency’ has emerged, and the negotiating mandate has become ‘significantly’ more pressing,” the German spokesperson summarized the essence of the dialogue.
As a reminder, on November 5, U.S. President Trump held a meeting with kremlin leader vladimir putin’s special envoy, Kirill Dmitriev. Following the talks, the American leader announced the preparation of far-reaching agreements intended to end the war in Ukraine.
At the same time, despite the fact that representatives from Kyiv—David Arakhamia and Dmytro Lubinets—were in Washington on an official visit that day, the White House chief did not invite them to the Oval Office.
