They seek to achieve “lasting peace” in Ukraine.

The new White House administration agreed with the European Union that they must continue to exert maximum pressure on the Russian Federation.

As Le Monde writes , citing the words of an anonymous European official, the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, and the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, came to this agreement during their first telephone conversation.

Kallas insisted on increasing European investment in defense. Both politicians also spoke about the need for cooperation on the Middle East and the challenges posed by China:

“They agreed on the need to maintain maximum pressure on Moscow in order to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.”

The Trump Administration’s Position on War

As is known, the new American president promises to end the war between Russia and Ukraine as soon as possible. One of the points of his plan could be the deployment of European troops on the line of combat contact.

Trump has repeatedly said he is looking forward to meeting with Kremlin leader Putin to discuss ending the war. After his inauguration, he said he would impose new sanctions on Russia if Moscow and Kyiv failed to reach a peace agreement.
