Former US President and candidate Donald Trump has accused Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky of refusing to reach an agreement to end the war with Russia and of “slandering” him as he stepped up attacks on Kyiv ahead of the US election.
According to the Financial Times, during his speech in North Carolina, he made one of the harshest attacks on Zelensky, who is scheduled to meet with current US President Joe Biden today, as well as with Vice President and Trump’s opponent in the election, Kamala Harris.
“We continue to give billions of dollars to a man who refuses to make a deal – Zelensky. He could not make a deal that would be better than the situation you have now. You have a country that has been destroyed,” the politician emphasized.
According to the publication, Trump appeared to be angered by Zelensky’s statements at the beginning of his visit to the United States, in which he questioned the former president’s ability to quickly reach an agreement.
“The president of Ukraine is in our country, and he’s making a little nasty slap at your beloved president,” the former head of the United States claims.
On Wednesday, Trump criticized Biden and Harris for leaving the United States “stuck” in a conflict over the White House’s decision.
“There is no Ukraine. This is not Ukraine anymore. You will never be able to replace these cities and towns, and you will never be able to replace the dead people, so many dead people. Any deal, even the worst one, would be better than what we have now,” he said.
