Oleksiy Khyzhnyak participated in the anti-terrorist operation and the Joint Forces Operation in Eastern Ukraine. During the full-scale invasion, he repeatedly demonstrated personal courage and heroism in special missions in the Donetsk, Luhansk, and Kharkiv regions.

Awarded the Order “For Courage” of the 3rd degree. Served as a group commander in the 3rd and 8th regiments of the SSO.

In September 2022, Captain Oleksiy Khyzhnyak’s group captured an enemy checkpoint and stopped the enemy column, destroying equipment and personnel. During the battle on September 7, the soldier died.

Captain Oleksiy Khyzhnyak was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine with the Order of the Gold Star.

On September 25, deputies of the Kropyvnytskyi City Council decided to rename Shatyla Street in the regional center to Oleksiy Khyzhnyak Street.
