The dictator is afraid that someone will steal his bodily secretions.

Several interesting episodes took place during the World Dictator Summit in Beijing, which took place these days. One of them was how servants of North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un diligently cleaned all the surfaces that their master touched. As experts told Reuters , this ritual is part of a large complex of security measures to counter foreign spies.

A video circulating online captured the diligent work of two of Kim’s security guards: after his meeting with Putin, they thoroughly cleaned not only the glass the Korean dictator drank from, but also the back and armrests of the chair he was sitting on, and even the coffee table next to the chair.

According to Reuters, Kim travels abroad with his own toilet so that foreign intelligence agencies have no chance of obtaining any physical evidence about his health. Such security measures have become standard for the North Korean monarchy since the time of Kim Jong-il, the current ruler’s father. 

“The special toilet and the required garbage bags for trash, waste and cigarette butts are designed to ensure that foreign intelligence, even friendly ones, does not obtain samples and conduct their analysis,” explained Michael Madden, a North Korea expert at the US Stimson Center.Read also:

He noted that having biological samples left behind by Kim could provide insight into any illnesses the North Korean dictator may have.

Reuters notes that such paranoid security measures around Kim have been seen far from the first time. Back in 2019, during his meeting with Trump in Vietnam, Kim’s bodyguards spent hours guarding the floor in his hotel room, only to clean it themselves afterwards. 

Kim is also carefully protected, whether from germs or poison. His guards have been spotted repeatedly carefully spraying and wiping down surfaces that the dictator is expected to touch.
