Sept 27 (Reuters) – Outgoing U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley said on Wednesday he would take measures to protect his family after former President Donald Trump suggested he had colluded with China in an act he said would have once warranted death.
Trump last week criticized Milley’s handling of the chaotic U.S. withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan in 2020 and said, without providing evidence, that “this guy turned out to be a Woke train wreck who, if the Fake News reporting is correct, was actually dealing with China to give them a heads up on the thinking of the President of the United States.”
“This is an act so egregious that, in times gone by, the punishment would have been DEATH!” Trump said on Sept. 22 on his Truth Social platform. Milley assumed the chairman role in October 2019 during Trump’s presidency and is set to step down on Sept. 30.
Asked about the comments during an interview on CBS’ 60 Minutes, Milley said in a clip released on Wednesday: “I’ve been faithful and loyal to the constitution of the United States for 44 and a half years.”
He added: “I’ve got adequate safety precautions. I wish those comments had not been made, but they were. And I’ll take appropriate measures to ensure my safety and the safety of my family.”

How about the Republicans and Dems get together and agree that no one wants another Biden-Trump contest. Then force them both to step down.

I agree in principle, but I think the Democrats think that is too risky as Dean Philips is not very well known.
In the U.S. you usually get two terms, unless you really screw things up.
I don’t think Biden did that yet.
(And yes his aid to Ukraine is inadequate for sure, but I don’t think this is such a scandal which would deter him from a second term.)
Trump is right about Milley. The man is utterly unworthy of his uniform and he is responsible for massive damage to the US Military.
Were Milley investigated and then tried and convicted of treason, his protection that he thinks he has set up would do him no good. I’m sure China would give him asylum, and that would be the only way he would escape the hangman.
Gen. Milley didn’t ‘conspire with the enemy’, nor did he commit treason. He did his job – part of his normal duties and responsibilities was “conveying reassurance in order to maintain strategic stability.”
His call with his Chinese counterpart was staffed, coordinated and communicated with the Department of Defense, as well as the U.S. security and intelligence community’s inter-agency pipeline.
Hopefully other generals will get the message and not conspire with the enemy too.

The accusations against Trump for supposedly colluding with Putin had no evidence behind them.
Trump’s constant praising of the little runt and his overt friendliness to other dictators is enough for me not wanting to see the oaf in the Oval Office ever again.
At this point, I would like to add, that I never claimed that he colluded with vlad.
The way the law is written it wasn’t listed as collusion anyways. Team trump benefited from muskovias actions but interaction was just shy of the bar. Obstruction however….😜
