Tomorrow in Kyiv, metro traffic will be fully restored to Teremky, – Klychko

During the repair, all the necessary works on waterproofing the tunnel frame and chemically fixing the soil around it were carried out.

Commissioning works on the updated section of the tunnel between “Demiivska” – “Lybidska” stations have been completed. On Thursday, September 12, full train traffic will resume between “Heroiv Dnipra” and “Teremky” stations. This was announced by the mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klychok in Telegram.

“The entire complex of works lasted 9 months. During this time, the construction site was prepared, more than 200 cable networks were laid, including those of DTEK, Ukrtelecom, and others. They developed a pit more than 15 m deep, dismantled the old part of the tunnel 27 meters long and built a new one. both sides and the tunnel frame adjacent to the new section (with a total length of more than 50 m). New tracks have been laid, all engineering networks have been restored, and safety systems for train traffic have been established,” he said.

According to Klitschko, the distillation tunnel between “Demiivska” and “Lybidska” is in difficult hydrogeological conditions. Therefore, during the repair, all necessary works were carried out on waterproofing the tunnel frame and chemically fixing the soil around it.

The estimated cost of the entire complex of works, as the mayor noted, amounted to UAH 383 million, which is UAH 62 million less than the initial cost.

In addition, he informed that in parallel with the restoration works, expert studies were conducted to determine the causes of the situation. 

“In particular, it has been confirmed that the reason for this is individual errors at the design stage and the poor performance of construction and installation work at the construction stage of this section of the tunnel, namely: the tunnel lining according to the project must be operated at a significantly lower level of groundwater; the tunnel lining was built in a poor quality with a violation tolerances for the installation of rings; no compensatory measures (chemical stabilization of the soil), including, to prevent the impact of cutting the tunnel in the place of changes in the engineering and geological conditions of the base; the rigidity of the tunnel is lower than the design one – due to the use of wall blocks instead of trays (reduced thickness and lack of ribs)”, – noted the mayor.

At the same time, as Klitschko added, laboratory tests confirmed gross violations during construction in terms of lack of chemical stabilization of the soil around the tunnel.

Repair of the tunnel between “Demiivska” and “Lybidska”

As UNIAN reported, due to the need for urgent repairs, the distillation tunnel between the “Demiivska” and “Lybidska” stations was suspended from December 9, 2023. It was planned to resume the movement of trains on the “blue” metro line by the end of the summer of 2024.

Experts stated that the deformation of the tunnel occurred due to poor design solutions and construction and assembly works.

On the night of August 30-31, the first test train passed through the updated section between the metro stations “Lybidska” and “Demiivska”. It also included a special wagon that checked the new track, in particular regarding compliance with the proper track width, setbacks and possible subsidence.
