US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s meeting with russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov does not mean that the United States has stopped condemning the massive shelling of Ukraine. This was stated by the Department of State spokeswoman Tammy Bruce during a briefing, European Pravda reports.
When asked by journalists why Rubio met with Lavrov at all during the record-breaking attacks by the russian federation on Ukrainian cities, Bruce replied: “To end the war, from our point of view, we need to talk to everyone at any time”.
She added: “Many people believed that it was not worth talking to putin at all during the previous administration. And they did not talk to him for three years. But this is not how you can reach an understanding or an agreement and make efforts to stop the bloodshed and suffering”.
The spokeswoman emphasized that Donald Trump condemns the russian escalation and calls it “disgusting”.
“We strongly condemn the escalation of russia’s attacks on Ukraine and express our deepest condolences to the victims and families of the deceased. Every week we see reports that russia is setting new records in the scale of its air attacks. Every country wants records, but not this kind,” Bruce said.
She also stressed that the United States is disappointed by the lack of progress in resolving the war in Ukraine.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Rubio and Lavrov had a “frank” conversation about the war in Ukraine.
