Massive Russian Attack on Ukraine: Zelenskyy’s Statement
Rescue and repair operations continue across several Ukrainian oblasts following Russia’s massive nighttime attack on Feb. 17, deliberately designed to inflict maximum damage on the energy system, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported.
Russian forces used nearly 400 strike drones and 29 missiles, including ballistic ones. Many were downed, but some hits occurred.
“In Odesa, tens of thousands lost heat and water after drone strikes. All services are working to help. Overall, 12 oblasts were targeted, with 9 injured including children, plus damage to over 10 residential buildings and railways,” Zelenskyy noted.
He urged partners to bolster Ukraine’s air defense and impose new sanctions against Russia, stressing: “Partners must respond to these attacks on life. Russia must answer for aggression. Our diplomacy will be more effective with justice and strength — sanctions pressure on RF, constant and rapid support for our army and air defense. For real, fair peace, we must target the sole source of this aggression: Moscow, which continues the killings, massive attacks, and assaults.”
