Denmark urged allies not to buy American weapons.

If the US starts an operation to annex Greenland , it will threaten Denmark with blocking its weapons and giving Russia permission to attack the country, said Rasmus Jarlov, head of the Danish parliament’s defense committee .

According to him, US President Donald Trump is currently trying to strengthen Russia and weaken Europe. He is also showing that he is “willing to inflict enormous damage on peaceful and loyal allies like Canada just because they insist on existing as a country.”

“Therefore, purchasing American weapons is a security risk that we cannot afford to take. We will make huge investments in air defense, fighter jets, artillery and other types of weapons in the coming years, and we should avoid American weapons if possible. I urge our allies and friends to do the same,” Yarlov noted.

At the same time, Defense Express emphasized that such thoughts of the politician were a reaction not only to the question for many countries that have spent a lot of money on F-35 fighters, whether the US can turn them off remotely, but also to the fact that Trump, after a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, stated that “the annexation of Greenland will happen . “

“After which, of course, it is possible to start discussing the viability of NATO in general, and not just the presence of the “magic button” for the F-35 in the USA. Because in the end, Washington may simply stop servicing the weapon. And this will irreversibly lead to the degradation of combat capabilities and a decrease in the defense capability of the country that owns it,” the experts noted.

Analysts recalled that Denmark does not have its own garrison in Greenland and landing ships, so any hostilities for this island can be ruled out, not even taking into account the difference in combat power between the United States and Denmark. 

“But the fact is that one of the alternative methods for the US to take possession of Greenland is to buy it. Especially since Washington already offered this to Denmark in 1946. And it is quite possible that Donald Trump will put Copenhagen between a choice of either receiving some compensation for its territory or receiving nothing and still being left without Greenland. But to speed up the decision, threats to stop the supply of any weapons, additional tariffs, and so on can be used,” Defense Express emphasized.

Donald Trump has previously spoken about his plans for Greenland , promising billions in investment, new jobs, and economic growth for the island.

“If you want, you can become part of the most beautiful country in the world, the United States,” he told the Greenlanders. 

The US president also said that  Greenland should become part of the United States “for international world security.” According to him, the US will protect Greenland and make it rich.
