“Threat to national security”: the Russian Federation decided to limit the rights of Ukrainians

The Russian authorities are outraged by the fact that Ukrainians residing in the Russian Federation “do not wish to have a stable legal relationship with Russia.”

The Russian authorities want to strengthen the conditions of stay of Ukrainian citizens on the territory of the Russian Federation. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the aggressor country took the appropriate initiative, Kommersant writes.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs wants to cancel Putin’s decree from August 2022 on the right of Ukrainians to stay indefinitely in the Russian Federation and to work without special permits.

The agency claims that a “maximum preferential approach” was applied to citizens of Ukraine in matters of issuing them residence permits and accepting Russian citizenship.

“At the same time, the majority of Ukrainian citizens, having been in Russia for a long time, still have not settled their legal status, which indicates their unwillingness to have a stable legal relationship with Russia, their lack of interest in a legal status on its territory, which poses a threat to national and public security,” says the explanatory note to the project.

Thus, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs wants to cancel all the above-mentioned relaxations for Ukrainians – unlimited periods of stay in the country and employment without special permits – from April.
