US President Donald Trump said that additional economic pressure on Russia will help speed up the end of the war in Ukraine. According to him, this is why the United States is increasing oil production and working to reduce its cost.
The president also called on other countries to join the United States and lower the price of oil on world markets. Trump said this at a gala dinner for the founders of the American Cornerstone Institute, Fox News reports.
Economic pressure on Moscow
Trump stated that a decrease in oil prices could be one of the key tools that would force Moscow to stop its aggression against Ukraine. Moreover, the US president is confident that a drop in energy prices would automatically mean an end to the war.
“This will automatically stop Russia’s war against Ukraine. Lower the prices a little more and it will stop the war,” he said.
At the same time, Trump said that other countries should support US efforts to significantly reduce the cost of oil on world markets. In addition, the American president once again stated that he was disappointed with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. He also noted that Russia is “losing the war” because it is losing thousands of people on the front every week.
What preceded
Trump has repeatedly said that lower oil prices are a powerful tool for putting pressure on Russia and could force it to end the war in Ukraine. He argues that the Russian economy is heavily dependent on energy exports and that falling oil prices will weaken its financial capabilities.
At the same time, Trump has expressed his readiness to impose “serious sanctions” against Russia , but on the condition that all NATO member countries stop buying oil from it. He criticizes European countries for continuing to trade with Russia, which, in his opinion, undermines the West’s negotiating position.
OBOZ.UA previously reported that statements coming from the Kremlin indicate dictator Vladimir Putin’s confidence in Russia’s ability to win a war of attrition. He is also betting on panic among Ukrainians. To achieve this, Moscow plans to intensify military escalation and attacks on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, including energy.
I think everyone knows that Trump is not my hero. But, if he manages to accomplish pushing down the oil price to the point to hurt mafia land enough to end the war, then he will be my sort-of hero.
The way I see it he wants other countries to do all the heavy lifting, while he takes no direct action against mafia land. Of course if this does stop the war, it will be because of him alone and nobody else.
