There were civilians in the building who were preparing to evacuate.

On Saturday, February 1, 2025, Russian troops struck a boarding school in the Ukrainian Defense Forces-controlled town of Sudzha in the Kursk region, where civilians were staying. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responded to the attack.

“This is how Russia fights. The city of Sudzha, Kursk region, Russian territory. A boarding school with civilians who were preparing to evacuate. A Russian air bomb. They destroyed the building, despite the fact that there were dozens of civilians there,”  President Kh. wrote on social media.

Zelensky emphasized that Russia also fought against Chechnya decades ago. Russian soldiers also killed people in Syria.

“Russian bombs are also destroying Ukrainian homes. And the Russian army is even using similar methods against its own civilians. This is a state that is devoid of civilization. And this is an evil that will not stop on its own. But if you act strongly and decisively, even Russia can be forced to stop. And this must be done so that the world is protected from Russian bombs,” Zelensky concluded.

The president also released a video showing the aftermath of the Russian attack:
