Russia is not fighting Ukraine today over territory. When Putin invaded Ukraine, he had two motives. One of them was to secure his place in history and restore the Soviet or even Russian empire. At various times, Ukraine was part of both. Putin wanted to expand Russia’s borders and give it greater geopolitical clout. And he thought that this was exactly how he would be remembered for centuries to come. But he also wanted to prevent the democratization of Russia.

If you look at when this war actually began—in 2014—it started immediately after the mass protests in Ukraine that forced President Yanukovych to flee the country and led to a change in leadership. The former president was ousted by a popular demonstration demanding an end to corruption, a crackdown on the oligarchy, and fair elections. The change in power led to revolutionary changes in the nature of Ukraine’s system of government. It is precisely this kind of revolution that Putin fears most at home.

He rules over a deeply corrupt political system. He controls the media. He controls the courts. And he is very afraid that a grassroots revolution, similar to the one that took place in Ukraine, could sweep through Russia.

That is why he now views the war in Ukraine as a restoration of Russia’s sphere of influence within the empire’s borders, but also as a restoration of autocracy and political dictatorship. This is his personal war to preserve his own power and his own political system.

Ukraine

— Putin, why did you invade Ukraine?
— Because Ukraine doesn’t exist.
— Seriously?
— Lenin made it up.
— And that’s why you invaded it?
— Ukrainians and Russians are one people.
— So you’re saying the Ukrainian nation doesn’t exist?
— It doesn’t exist.
— Then who lives in Ukraine?
— Who else? Russians.
— Then why did you invade Ukraine if Russians live there?
— To denazify it.
— Denazify whom?
— Ukrainians.
— But you just said that Ukrainians don’t exist.
— We wanted to protect Russian speakers.
— From whom?
— Who else? From the Nazis.
— But you just said there are only Russians there!
— I don’t even know myself anymore. This is complete nonsense.
— So who exactly have you been at war with for almost five years?
— NATO.
— Is Ukraine a member of NATO?
— No.
— Then why do you claim you’re at war with NATO?
— Because NATO is at war with us through the Ukrainians.
— Through those Ukrainians who don’t exist?

🤬”Putin is a criminal waging war against the U.S.,” says Sean Penn

The Hollywood actor compared Ukraine to The Beatles and stated that it embodies all the best that the American Dream promised.

We are letting Ukraine down on a catastrophic scale. But Ukraine is not letting us down. Ukrainians will not give up—and must not give up.

Penn also noted that Ukrainians are waging this defensive war “effectively and courageously,” while retaining the ability to love, laugh, and remain human even in the midst of war.

Thank You, Sean Penn, for Your Continued Support!

What a great person Sean is . History will remember the individual unprincipled collaborators who reside amongst those across the Atlantic.

🇺🇸 August is Ukraine Month in Chicago.

This was officially announced by Mayor Brandon Johnson, who signed a proclamation in support of Ukraine, Ukrainian heritage, and the Ukrainian community’s contribution to Chicago’s development.

💬 “I urge all residents to join in honoring Ukrainian heritage and the contributions of Ukrainian Americans,” the mayor said.

This is a fantastic mayor! Thank you on behalf of Ukraine and the rest of the FREE WORLD standing on the side of Ukraine! Brandon Johnson thank you!!!

The Kremlin has launched a large-scale special operation—or, more precisely, an operation to reflexively manipulate the behavior of European voters. The goal is to prompt voters to seek refuge from the threat of a massive influx of aggressive illegal migrants into their cities. To seek refuge—and a Savior!
In parallel with this intimidation, the Kremlin will promote right-wing political projects to play the role of the Savior. The Kremlin’s objective is to cut Ukraine off from Europe and European aid by bringing so-called European “mini-Trumps” to power in the elections.

Ukraine cannot afford to simply stand by and watch this IPSO unfold. We must act immediately!
And situation with the attack of migrants in Spain was the first attempt to check direction and narrative.

I am missing trump and his warmongers in this. Remember Vance at the Munich Conference and his support for the far right in Europe. Vance his visit to support Orbán in election time! Elon Musk supporting this Robinson in the UK etc.!!! The love for Farage from the Kremlin AND trump. Etc. etc. All to break up the unity of the EU! Break the support for Ukraine and finally become kremlin provinces governed by authoritarian regimes! Destroying democracies.

  1. Oleksii Fokardi’s vignette ending with :

“Then why do you claim you’re at war with NATO?
    — Because NATO is at war with us through the Ukrainians.
    — Through those Ukrainians who don’t exist?”

Is a perfect analysis of the malignant brain cancer of putlerism.

  2. “If you look at when this war actually began—in 2014—it started immediately after the mass protests in Ukraine that forced President Yanukovych to flee the country and led to a change in leadership.”

I don’t agree with this statement at all. This war started when the German whore tried to strip the identity from Ukrainians. All books, church services, school lessons were banned from using the Ukrainian language. She also Liquidated the Cossack Hetmanate and the Zaporozhian Sich to strip away Ukrainian self-governance.

    Later bans included:

Valuev Circular (1863): Issued by Pyotr Valuev, which banned the publication of most books in the Ukrainian language.
Ems Ukase (1876): Signed by Tsar Alexander II, which completely prohibited importing, printing, and public performances in Ukrainian.

So don’t tell me this war started in 2014, it started in the 1700s.

    • I wouldn’t overthink it F1.
RuZZia in its various incarnations has been constantly at war for centuries.
She understands this only too well, as a respected historian and expert on ruZZian imperialism. When she says “this war”, she means the present one, which started in 2014. She has written extensively about ruZZia’s imperial past, as well as the Stalin era.
