“They could have easily taken Kyiv”: Trump shared his version of the start of the war in Ukraine.

In his opinion, if the tanks had continued to move along the highway, the war could have ended on the first day.

US President Donald Trump stated that Russia could have ended the war in Ukraine on day one if not for the Russian general who sent tanks into Kyiv “through a swamp.” He made this statement in an interview with Axios .

“I think what happened is just astounding. A war that should have been over very quickly. You know, I don’t know if you know this story, but when it started, Putin had hundreds of tanks driving down the highway. Highway, concrete, very good highway, solid as a rock, straight into Kyiv. And about halfway there, he would have gotten there in three hours, going 50 miles an hour, which is about the top speed of a tank,” Trump said.

According to him, the Russian Federation had a large column of tanks.

“And they had some general who’s probably no longer with us. He decided, instead of going straight to Kyiv and ending the war on the first day—I don’t think anyone even knows this story—that he drove through fields and swamps. And a couple of days before that, there was a record downpour, and these tanks got stuck in the mud,” the president added.

He repeated that he gave Ukraine Javelin anti-tank missiles, which destroyed the tanks.

“I gave them to them before it happened. But you know, there’s this expression, because they say, ‘Oh, you’re so nice to Russia.’ But I’m not nice to Russia. I’ve been very tough on Russia. I’ve been very tough on China, tougher than anyone else. That’s why they respect me. I have a good relationship with these people, but I gave them Javelins, and those tanks were destroyed.

According to his version, “the tanks lined up and didn’t move for several days.” He added:

“And then they came to hit them. They were basically in quicksand. It was mud, like quicksand. They couldn’t move. If the general had just… this is why war is always risky. If this general had just driven straight down the concrete road, they would have been in Kyiv within four hours, and Ukraine would have done nothing about it. This war would have been over in a day. That was four and a half years ago. So it was a terrible mistake. And so the general decides that instead of driving down the middle of the highway straight into the city, there was nothing they could do. They were completely unprepared. And not only that, when they destroyed all those tanks, it gave them confidence.”

  1. What a load of bollocks. That convoy was only deployed after Ukraine had smashed the Spetznaz at Hostomel. No Javelins were needed for that operation. mafia land’s failure to take Hostomel, basically fucked them up. There were no tanks trapped in swamps, they run out of fuel and were using maps from Lenin’s time.

There was no record downpour. The ground was still covered in snow and frost, not a drop of rain in the whole of February and March. In fact the weather was very cold but sunny. Ask me how I know!

  3. This orange draft dodger has no inkling about military matters. Like always, his stinky trap just ejects random bullshit.

  4. As far as i remember, many tank drivers refused to come to downtown Kyiv to get barbecued. So they did stick knives in the fuel tanks and brought the convoy to a halt, allowing Ukrainian partizans to attack and destroy the convoy.
