They began to miss targets more often: the General Staff noted an increase in the effectiveness of electronic warfare against Kinzhal missiles

09/13/2025

During 2025, Russian Kinzhal missiles, with which the enemy attacks Ukraine, began to miss their targets more often. This is the result of the work of Ukrainian electronic warfare ( EW ) equipment.

They have begun to demonstrate better effectiveness against this missile, a source in the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine told ” Suspilny “.

“The faster a missile moves, the harder it is for it to determine its coordinates, and, accordingly, the more vulnerable it is to the effects of radio jamming,” the publication’s interlocutor explained.

Thanks to this feature and the increase in electronic warfare capabilities, the Ukrainian military was able to increase the effectiveness of its impact on the missile.

How Russia spends money to combat Ukrainian electronic warfare

Russia has lost at least $1.5 billion in the fight against our electronic warfare capabilities. In particular, the Russians are forced to use CRPA on their vehicles – navigation antennas that are capable of providing high-quality positioning in space even in conditions of active radio interference, which is expensive.

The Russians install the corresponding module, in particular, in KABs and “Shahedas”. The cost of one such interference-protected antenna is 10-17 thousand dollars.

“During this time, the enemy has launched about 80,000 KABs and about 40,000 Shaheds – these are anti-aircraft weapons. They all have these CRPA antennas, and they cost from $10,000 to $17,000. Adding this up, it turns out that the enemy has spent $1.5 billion on combating electronic warfare,” the source said.

The Russians eventually began using increasingly sophisticated antennas. They initially installed four-element receivers, and later expanded to 8- and 16-element antennas.

As OBOZ.UA reported, on the night of August 28, Russian troops launched one of the most massive strikes on Ukraine in a month. The invaders used hundreds of drones to strike Ukrainian cities, and 4 Tu-95MS bombers and 1 Tu-160 bomber, which took off from the Olenya and Engels airfields, were used for the missile strike, launching Kh-101 missiles.

MiG-31K fighters also took off from Savasleyka airfield to launch Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles over the capital of Ukraine.
