Very insightful and interesting analysis. While Putin is certainly a malicious actor, he is predictable to some extent. The “other Prigozhins,” however, are not and it’s frightening to imagine what could happen if these weapons ended up in the wrong hands. It’s equally, if not more, alarming to consider what could happen if Kyiv fell. That’s why I still believe, as I did from day one, that Ukraine will prevail.

  1. “Not one country, not even the most pro-Ukraine ones, will put troops on the ground, because their electorates will not stand for it.”

Well he is inarguably correct about that isn’t he?
Only one western politician is in favour of sending troops before a ceasefire and that is Boris. But even he rules them out of a combat role.
Someone has to break the deadlock.
    But who?

    • The rot of cowardice has eaten too far into the core of Europe during the past two or so decades, so something exceptional would have to happen to fix this damage. What? I have no idea. It seems that nothing can fix this type of stupid, not even this terrible war right at their very doorsteps.

  2. “This post isn’t about partisan politics.
It’s about the systematic abduction of more than 35,000 Ukrainian children and the man already wanted by the ICC for that crime.
If you want to argue the facts, bring evidence.
If you want to deflect, don’t expect a reply.”

Well I certainly don’t want to argue the facts or deflect, but I do want to bring politics into it. Because western politicians are failing Ukraine. The rat nazi and his murder gang still feel invulnerable.
As Sergei Medvedev said at Chatham House:
“no one will commit troops because their electorates won’t stand for it.”

But there is a fairly recent example : Tony Blair. Despite having opposite politics to Dubya, he committed 50,000 British troops to the 2nd Gulf War.
I agreed with him because Saddam was committing genocide on the Kurds and on his own people.
He gassed to death an entire town of Kurds.
I have no doubt today that if a U.S. president such as Ron Reagan or John McCain sent US troops to Ukraine, then a UK PM would do so too if asked.
Blair was hated for sending troops to Iraq, but IMHO he was right.
And Ukraine is FAR more important than Iraq.

  3. We heard the same rhetoric about nukes falling into the wrong hands when the USSR collapsed. Nothing happened. No rogue actors had control of nukes. This fear of russia collapsing is just another excuse for the West to hide behind.
