Russia attacked Ukraine because it was afraid of NATO, and Americans provoked it. This is what trolls say. This is so absurd but let me elaborate.

So they want to say that Russia is the mindless puppet of US without its own brain that cannot calculate the consequences and acts on primitive impulses? Americans put Ukraine as bait and they attacked like a shark that smells blood? This theory makes Russians look like they have the mental capabilities of 3-year-olds or even chimps. They are much smarter, I must disappoint you. But smarter in a twisted way.

It’s the “short skirt” argument of the rapist. Yes, a short skirt provokes someone with a poorly developed frontal lobe to rape someone who he thinks cannot resist. But it does not mean short skirts should be banned, it means the rapists should be punished.

Also, I am curious. How US provoke then in 2008 to invade Georgia, in 90ties to kill over 300k Chechens, in 1991 in Transnistria, in 2014 in Ukraine? Afghanistan in 1979, Finland in 1939 and all down the history line? At some point, you’ll have to find a different “provoker”, as US did not even exist.

By the way, there was no “promise not to expand NATO”, you won’t find a single document. Even if someone told something similar to Russians while washing hands in the toilet, it can’t be counted without written agreement. No one can show you such an agreement, it’s another Russian tale.
Somehow NATO did not join anyone by force. On the contrary, everyone was knocking their door to let them in to stay safe from Russia (Ukraine tried in 2008 too but got rejection). And every sovereign country has the right to join any alliances, and should give a zero ef what Russia thinks about it. Oh, they feel threatened? Well, they need a therapist then.

And what’s the point of invading Russia, a resource economy that produced no added value? Everyone was happy with their cheap gas and oil and selling them cars, electronics and luxury goods. Many Russians bought real estate and opened huge bank accounts in “the rotten West”. No one would trouble capturing Russis. Like no one captures Africa now with an army. That simply does not pay off.

And look at NATO now. They are even afraid to shoot Russian drones over Poland and Romania, “to avoid escalation”. Do you really think such people could invade Russia? With what? Unicorns and Rainbows?

So this argument of “NATO threat” is for someone with no critical thinking (I have a word starting with “I” to put it short, but have to use not-so-direct language here). Sometimes I really wish NATO was similar to how Russia describes it in propaganda, but that’s just wishful thinking…

There is a Russian fable where a wolf accuses a lamb of crimes, and after failing with arguments he just says “You are guilty because I want to eat”. This is the only reason why they attacked.
