There is no consensus on long-range strikes against Russia right now, says Biden

Zelensky’s proposal was considered, although disagreements remain.

US President Joe Biden said on Friday that Western allies have so far failed to reach a consensus on the issue of Ukraine using long-range weapons to strike Russian territory .

According to Bloomberg, Ukraine’s proposal has gained some support among NATO allies, with Joe Biden calling for a line of support for the war-torn country.

The US president, who warned that Ukraine faces a “very difficult winter”, sought to secure Western support during a brief visit to Berlin.

Biden plans to use his presidential powers to maintain aid to Ukraine until the end of his term in January, White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters in Berlin.

NATO officials are discussing whether the U.S. leader might take a bolder step toward Ukraine after the Nov. 5 vote, regardless of who wins, according to people familiar with the alliance’s deliberations.

Some interlocutors cautioned that the discussions were at an early stage. Scholz still opposes Ukraine’s early accession to NATO and the refusal to supply Kyiv with long-range missiles. The chancellor said with Biden:

“We support Ukraine as energetically as possible. At the same time, we are making sure that NATO does not become a party to the war, so that this war does not turn into an even greater catastrophe.”

As he left, Biden said there was “no consensus” on supplying Kyiv with long-range weapons to strike deep into Russian territory.

“Nevertheless, a meeting of NATO defense ministers this week showed greater openness to discussing an invitation to join the alliance. But they say there is little chance of progress before the U.S. elections on November 5,” the article notes.

Permission to strike with long-range weapons in the Russian Federation

Today, there is no unanimous opinion among all partners regarding permission to launch long-range weapons strikes on Russian territory. This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to him, this is a “risky question” because we are talking about “a package of very powerful missiles”, so each of the countries – the USA, Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy – does not want to take risks. The head of state emphasized that among these 5 countries there are those that are on Ukraine’s side in this matter.

  1. AND NOW HURRY, AND NO NEED…………………..AND AFTER NOV.5 NO HURRY AND NEED ANYHOW…..NO MORE….

    • Yeah we heard the same things in 2014 and provoking the bear. I remember speech after speech offering putin “will pay a price” and “off-ramps”. Meanwhile, disasters like Debaltseve and Avdiivka happened. It wasn’t until Trump sent Javelins in 2017 that the Moskali backed off a little and froze the conflict but warmed up the world to send more weapons instead of blankets, MREs and 3-wheeled Hummers.
