Because of this decision, Russia could lose about $6.5 billion a year, John Kirby said.

Ukraine’s decision to stop transporting Russian gas through its territory has become one of Moscow’s biggest and most costly defeats.
This statement was made by White House adviser John Kirby during a briefing, Ukrinform writes . According to him, due to this decision, Russia could lose about 6.5 billion dollars a year.
“This will obviously completely deprive Russia of about $6.5 billion in annual income from selling gas to Europe. This is one of the biggest and most expensive defeats for Moscow,” he said.
Kirby added that the US welcomes “Ukraine’s decision and its determination.” The adviser recalled that when Russian dictator Vladimir Putin first came to power 25 years ago, more than 130 billion cubic meters of gas were transported to Europe via Ukraine. Today, that volume is zero.
He noted that the United States is trying to increase energy supplies to Europe. 50% of Europe’s liquefied natural gas imports come from the United States.
