“The war is lost…”

“The war is lost. You can say that to your opponent. The war is already lost in all directions. It’s lost on the battlefield. They didn’t go anywhere, not to Kharkiv, not to Kyiv, especially not to Lviv. They didn’t go anywhere.

It’s lost on the diplomatic level. All civilised countries have turned away from Russia. Just recently, Japan sent a large tranche to help Ukraine. And as for Europe, I’m not even talking. As for Trump, well, it’s a strange phenomenon that the Americans themselves will probably be ashamed of later. But nevertheless, there’s a very powerful movement in America in support of Ukraine, both in the Republican and Democratic parties, just in society.

Russia, once a truly great power, a member of the G8, became a satellite of China, which is now a raw materials appendage of China.

Its allies, it was on the threshold of NATO. In 2002, the issue of joining NATO was already being discussed very seriously, and the same Prime Minister Kasyanov was for joining NATO, and putin said that it was possible, we should think about it.

Well, now what NATO? Now the allies are North Korea, which journalists in Russia have also been poking fun at for so many years, about Kim Jong-un and so on. But it turned out that it wasn’t worth poking fun at, that North Korean troops are fighting side-by-side with the Russians on the Ukrainian front.
This is Iran with these crazy ayatollahs, it turned out that these crazy ayatollahs there provide weapons and they’re being used actively.

And finally, China itself, which also, if we were delighted, then for its economic successes, but certainly not for its totalitarian system. And now China is the main pillar of the putin regime and putin’s totalitarian system. So, naturally, Russia has suffered a humanitarian defeat, a mass of cultural people have left, I would say, the cultural elite of Russia, the Russian youth.

Well, and old people like me, we left, we don’t want anything to do with this regime. Russia has lost hundreds of thousands of its people, and with a low birth rate and a poor level of education, it’s very sensitive. Russia has lost its culture, because the level of education has dropped sharply and, as a matter of fact, Russia has lost everything. Everything. The war is lost.”

Andrey Zubov: A prominent Russian historian and political scientist who was famously dismissed from Moscow State Institute of International Relations in 2014 after criticising the annexation of Crimea.

I’m honestly baffled by people crying that russia has “lost” the war.
It is still WAGING the war: hasn’t stopped assault operations, keeps hammering Ukrainian infrastructure, ramps up drone production, and still recruits 33–35,000 soldiers every month.
And Ukraine still has to survive through it.

Olga Krakovna

The war is lost, but Kyiv is freezing from the results of bombing critical infrastructure still. Old people are dying from cold and lack of necessities.
I wish it was really lost to the extent that there were no more rockets and drones to use for genocide of Ukrainian people..

Roy Green

Olga Krakovna. Well said Olga but because putin can’t face the fact that he has lost and his so called leadership is making his own people even more poor, he is causing as much destruction as he can in Ukraine and maximum suffering for the brave Ukrainian people. He needs to be stopped but the US won’t help and China are making profit from the war so they don’t want it to end. Europe are not too weak to step in but too scared. Whatever happened to the Coalition of the Willing?

“If Europe does not stop this senseless war in Ukraine, within a year or two russia may carry out a nuclear strike — first and foremost against Germany or the United Kingdom.”

— Sergey Karaganov, Kremlin’s ideologist.

Here are several more quotes from Putin’s man:

“Europe should be removed from the map of humanity. It should be excluded from the geopolitical and geostrategic agenda, because it is a nonsense.”

“These idiots understand nothing except physical pain. Sooner or later, we will have to move to a higher level of escalation. We will have to strike — first with conventional weapons, then with nuclear ones.”

“I think putin believes (and I believe so as well) that the use of nuclear weapons is a sin. But perhaps a necessary sin to save humanity.”

“I call for the limited use of nuclear weapons against Europe. Otherwise, the world will slide into a third world war.”

“If we deliver a nuclear strike on Poznań, the Americans will never respond. Americans will never respond at all. But my choice is the United Kingdom and Germany. Germany — first.”

Interesting how “saving humanity” in russia always starts with destroying half of it.

Steven Krupinski

It’s time for Europe to turn up the pressure on Russia. These threats cannot be tolerated. Cripple Russia’s economy and military. For now, Europe and Ukraine can’t count on the USA to help them further until a new administration is elected.

Per Hennung

This is not deterrence. It is an admission of strategic failure.

When Kremlin ideologues, such as Sergey Karaganov, speak of nuclear use as a “necessary sin,” conventional power has already been exhausted.

No state that expects to win normalizes the apocalypse.

The choice of Germany and the United Kingdom is symbolic, not military. The claim that the United States would not respond is self-deception.

The effect is the opposite of what is intended. These threats harden European public opinion and make rearmament, long-term containment, and sustained support for Ukraine unavoidable.

Europe does not need panic. Europe needs to ensure that nuclear blackmail never works.

Alexander Sholto Pridgeon

The UK has around 225 nuclear warheads. I think they might be inclined to respond if Russia bombed London.

Here comes the Trident missile, with love from London! Goodbye Moskva, goodbye Putin!

Michael Gaenzler

Ruzzia is coming to an end as we know it (not a good experience)! What will come next?
Will China take a bite out of it in the east? Belarus 🇧🇾 will become democratic? Kaliningrad?

Dmitry Lebedev

Michael Gaenzler : I do not think the breakup is probable (except for Caucasus). China’s takeover of the Far East is also improbable. There is no need… all that is needed is withdrawal from Ukraine, paying out reparations, and building a democratic society. No sympathy, just trying to be realistic here.

According to Trump, the peace deal to end the war is being delayed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, not Putin.

When asked why U.S.-led negotiations have not yet produced results, Trump replied briefly: “Zelenskyy.”

Trump claimed that Putin is ready to end the war, while the President of Ukraine is acting more cautiously.

The American president did not explain why he believes Zelenskyy is stalling the negotiations, saying only that he is “having a hard time coming to this decision.”
