The US Senate allowed the possibility of imposing sanctions against Russia before its invasion of Ukraine .

The head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Democrat Robert Menendez, said this in an interview with CNN, according to TV channel correspondent Josh Rogin.

“There are some sanctions that could be put in place in advance for what Russia has already done, and then ‘destructive sanctions’ if it invades Ukraine,” Menendez said.

Negotiations between Republicans and Democrats on this issue are in their final stages.

Earlier, the United States refused to impose preventive sanctions against Russia.

    • Preventative sanctions are needed mostly because this isn’t the first time the Moscow Misfits have done this intimidation procedure. Preventative sanctions should automatically kick in when rules are broken. After all, the OSCE and NATO agreements with the Moskali require foreign observers with exercises over, I believe, 13,000 troops. I’d like to see an automatic embargo and Marshall law if it happens.

      • Negotiations on bipartisan legislation to punish Russia if it invades Ukraine is “on the 1-yard line,” U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez said Sunday.

      • I totally agree. It is high time that we make the mafiosi pay for breaking rules all the time.

  1. First: the US and UK must cancel all Russian visas with immediate effect and cancel all incoming commercial flights into the US and UK from Russia. Aeroflot; the preferred carrier for poisoners, thieves, spies and terrorists to be banned permanently.
