The United States assumes that Russia will try to invade Ukraine before mid-February. Earlier in the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, the date of the offensive was called February 20 .

This was stated by US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy R. Sherman in a conversation with Estonian President (2016-2021) Kersti Kaljulaid as part of an online discussion YES .

At the same time, she clarified that, probably, even his inner circle does not know about Putin’s true intentions.

“We see signs that he (Putin – UNIAN) may use force now, or maybe in mid-February. And we all know that the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games will take place on February 4. President Putin is supposed to be there. And Xi Jinping asked, apparently, that no attacks against Ukraine be carried out at this time,” Sherman said.

The Deputy Secretary of State emphasized that Russia “has no defense reason to concentrate such military power” along the border of Ukraine.

“In 2014, it was Russia that seized part of Ukraine, took Crimea. Russia continues to fuel the war in Ukraine. This war has already claimed 14,000 lives. Cities have disappeared and collapsed. Due to Russian actions, almost 3 million Ukrainians are in need of humanitarian assistance,” Sherman said.

The politician added that now we are talking not only about risks for Ukraine, but also about risks for the whole world.

“One country cannot change the borders of another by force, cannot dictate the foreign policy of this country or forbid it to go somewhere, to join something,” Blinken’s deputy stressed.

In turn, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba previously explained the difference between statements about a possible Russian invasion of the United States and Ukraine by the fact that Kiev is focusing on any scenario of a Russian offensive. Whereas the United States, according to the minister, emphasizes the likelihood of a military invasion of Ukraine.

  1. Why come out with statements for the sake of it? It’s a pointless exercise unless your statement says crushing sanctions will be applied to Muscovy immediately.
