These deliveries should cover Ukraine’s need for air defense equipment by the end of this year.

The US is sending Ukraine more than 500 interceptor missiles for the Patriot missile defense system and the NASAMS air defense system. As The Wall Street Journal writes with reference to American officials, the missiles should arrive in Ukraine in the coming weeks.

According to one of the officials, these deliveries should satisfy Ukraine’s needs for air defense equipment until the end of this year.

More than $7 billion allocated to the Pentagon to transfer arms and ammunition to Ukraine from its stockpiles remains unspent, as does more than $2 billion intended to finance long-term contracts for the supply of equipment to Kyiv, it said.

By transferring as much military aid as possible to Kyiv by January, Biden administration officials hope to provide Ukraine with a stronger negotiating position and strengthen its defenses. At the same time, as one of the officials notes, before the elections, the administration intended to deliver the rest of the aid to Ukraine by April.

  1. Wow! Biden is an idiot! An empty bottle! Ukraine needs PLANES AND OFFENSIVE WEAPONS! Our mission is not to defend but to liberate Ukraine!

    • Ukraine needs a lot of things – including defensive weapons. Every day we’re seeing stories about deadly strikes on Ukrainian cities.

With $7 billion to spend in a couple of months, I’m sure that Ukraine will also be receiving lots of offensive weapons – not all of which need to be announced publicly.

Regarding “Ukraine needs PLANES” – one thing I’m curious about is, how many F-16’s does Ukraine have today, and how many pilots that are trained to fly them? It would make no sense for the US to be providing planes that can’t be used.

        • Not an excuse; a simple statement of fact. Ukraine needs it all – planes and offensive weapons and defensive weapons.

Calling Biden an idiot for providing interceptor missiles is suggesting that Ukraine has no need for interceptor missiles, while nothing could be further from the truth.

          • Well, I’ll call Biden an idiot … for his damned harmful trickle down policy, for his many refusals along the way, and for his ban on Ukraine striking mafia airfields and launch sites. How many defensive weapons, ammo, or systems could be saved by shooting the archers, instead of their arrows? How many lives could be saved?
