The US is demanding that Ukraine compensate for all the aid provided.

In a new draft mineral extraction agreement, the US is demanding that Ukraine repay all aid provided after Russia’s full-scale invasion began in 2022.

According to an analysis by EuroPravda, which has the text of the agreement at its disposal, Ukraine undertakes to compensate the United States for the cost of all aid – budgetary, military, and humanitarian. According to the Kiel Institute, the amount of such aid is estimated at $123 billion.

According to the text of the agreement, Ukraine must convert the Fund’s income into dollars and transfer them to the accounts of the American side upon request without commissions.

The Fund’s sources of income will be 50% of the cost of all new licenses and rental payments for the development of Ukraine’s subsoil and 50% of income from infrastructure facilities (details of this item are not disclosed in the agreement).

At the same time, the agreement establishes strict obligations for Ukraine to repay the “debt” to the US on time – otherwise, it is expected to increase by 4% annually.

This means that the longer Kyiv delays payments, the more funds it will have to compensate, the EP notes.

Minerals Agreement with the US

The United States recently presented Ukraine with a new version of the agreement, which provides for control over Ukraine’s subsoil without providing security guarantees. Ukrainian politicians have expressed concern about the proposal , considering it a step backwards.

As Bloomberg notes, the new version of the agreement on Ukrainian minerals indicates the intention of the US leadership to take all Ukrainian resources into American hands and block access to them for Europe.
