The resolution was supported by over 50 countries.

The US refuses to co-sponsor a draft UN resolution dedicated to three years of Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine , which supports Kyiv’s territorial integrity and condemns Russian aggression

Three diplomatic sources told Reuters that this was a potentially dramatic shift in the position of Ukraine’s most powerful Western ally.

It is noted that the move appears to reflect a growing rift between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump, whose team held talks with Russia without Kyiv’s participation.

“The dispute is a major political crisis for Ukraine, which used tens of billions of dollars in U.S. military aid agreed upon under the previous U.S. administration to survive Russia’s invasion and also received diplomatic support,” the article said.

The draft resolution of the UN General Assembly condemns Russian aggression and reaffirms commitment to the “sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.”

“In previous years, the United States has consistently co-sponsored such resolutions in support of a just peace in Ukraine,” one of the publication’s sources said.

According to one of the agency’s interlocutors, the resolution was supported by over 50 countries. He did not specify which countries exactly.

Importantly, the United States has co-sponsored nearly every UN resolution supporting Ukraine against Russia throughout the largest conflict on European soil since World War II. It is unclear when the deadline for supporting the draft resolution expires, and Washington could still change its mind.

The UN vote, seen as a key indicator of global support for Ukraine amid the Trump administration’s perceived shift toward Russia’s position in the war, could still go ahead without US backing but is less likely to gain broad support in the General Assembly, the source said.

“The situation at the moment is that they (the US) will not sign it.”

He added that efforts are ongoing to gain support from other countries, including the Global South.

    • It’s too bad that the whole country will suffer the results, rather than just the person choosing to bed down with the rat.
