The US has done little to stop Russia, and now we are heading towards a new “Minsk”, – Pompeo

According to the politician, Russia will pose a threat to the West if it is not stopped in Ukraine.

The United States of America did not do enough to stop Russian aggression and restore peace in Ukraine back in 2014.

This was stated by Mike Pompeo, former CIA Director and US Secretary of State during Donald Trump’s first term, during the Black Sea Security Forum in Odessa.

“I regret that we did not do enough in 2014, and in 2022… And I was involved in the negotiations in Minsk… We were already at the negotiating table and saw and heard a lot. And it seemed like we found a certain line of control, but it did not stop the massive aggression in 2022. And these negotiations in Minsk look the same as the negotiations that we are seeing now,” Pompeo said.

He added that even if the war stops, “we cannot return to Russian gas,” because Moscow can find a new target for its aggression at any time. This could be the north, or the Mediterranean, where the Russian Federation has its military contingent, and so on.

“If Putin lays down his arms, we need to understand that this could easily happen again. And it could be not Ukraine, but any other region where there is a Russian military contingent… The Russians simply do not want the Western world to exist,” Pompeo emphasized.

War in Ukraine and the USA

As UNIAN wrote, according to the former US Ambassador to Ukraine, honorary member of the Atlantic Council William Taylor, American leader Donald Trump, despite concerns about his possible sympathy for Moscow, may still impose sanctions on the Russian Federation . In his opinion, the White House has the potential to make tough decisions regarding the Kremlin.

The diplomat suggests that Trump will use his influence, and there is a high probability that he will impose sanctions on Russia and supply more weapons to Ukraine, to force Putin to stop the war.

  1. “The diplomat suggests that Trump will use his influence, and there is a high probability that he will impose sanctions on Russia and supply more weapons to Ukraine, to force Putin to stop the war.”

I agree, though I wish it was done 3 months ago.

  2. “there is a high probability that he will impose sanctions on Russia”

I think there is a high probability that trumpkov will give putler 2 weeks to continue killing Ukrainian civilians, then putler will propose something meaningless and/or nonsensical, then trumpkov will give putler another 2 weeks…

  3. A Minsk-type deal will only underline the fact that Trump has no spine, no brains, and no ethics.

    • Any such deal would be signed by Zelensky, so are you saying then that Zelensky would have no spine, brains or ethics? Or did you not realize any “deal” would require signatures?

      • I didn’t say that Zelensky would sign it, or? The mere creation of such a deal is a disgrace, is what I meant.
