Those who yearn for peace must prepare for war, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said.
The United States is prepared for war with China, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said after Beijing threatened to retaliate against President Donald Trump’s new tariffs, the New York Post reports .
“We are ready,” Hegseth said on Fox News, commenting on China’s statement that it is “ready to fight” in any “war.”
He stressed that it is important for the United States to “be strong.”
“Those who want peace must prepare for war… That is why we are rebuilding our military. That is why we are rebuilding deterrence in the spirit of a warrior. We live in a dangerous world with powerful, rising countries with a completely different ideology… They are rapidly increasing their defense spending, modern technology, they want to displace the United States… If we want to prevent war with the Chinese or other countries, we must be strong.”
Let us recall that, as UNIAN reported, US President Donald Trump introduced large-scale duties on imports from Canada and Mexico, and also doubled duties on China.
China responded by saying it was “ready to fight to the end”: “If the US wants a war, whether it is a tariff war, a trade war or any other type of war, we are ready to fight to the end.”
