The United States has begun the process of granting Ukraine licenses to produce missiles for Patriot air defense systems , taking the issue beyond political statements.

This is reported by Kyiv Independent, citing a senior Ukrainian official familiar with the matter,  Censor.NET reports .

What is known?

According to the official, the American defense company Lockheed Martin, which produces these missiles, supports granting Ukraine the appropriate licenses. 

According to his assessment, the process “will progress faster than expected a few months ago.”

What preceded it?

• This news came after US President Donald Trump announced on July 8 that he would grant Ukraine’s long-standing request to manufacture American Patriot missiles.
• President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on technical teams and representatives of ministries to “start working on this without pause, to receive a license as soon as possible and start production in Ukraine.”

In addition to the United States, Japan and Germany currently hold licenses to produce Patriot interceptor missiles.
