It contains additional equipment, drones, and missiles.

The United States is preparing a package of new additional weapons and equipment worth $988 million for Ukraine to help it fight Russia’s invasion.

It includes additional equipment, drones and missiles, according to a document seen by Reuters.

It is noted that this almost halves the $2.21 billion available under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) as the Biden administration works to commit to purchasing weapons from industry rather than withdrawing them from the U.S. stockpile.

The Pentagon later confirmed that the package also includes support for maintenance and repair programs to help Ukraine rebuild its forces and build and sustain combat capability. Capabilities in this announcement include:

  • Ammunition for artillery rocket systems (HIMARS).
  • Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAS).
  • Equipment, components and spare parts for maintenance, repair and overhaul of artillery systems, tanks and armored vehicles.

“This is the twenty-second USAI package of the Biden administration. The United States will continue to work with approximately 50 allies and partners through the Ukraine Defense Contact Group and its associated coalitions, as appropriate, to provide the support Ukraine needs to win the war,” the Pentagon noted.

Military aid to Ukraine from the US – details

The administration of current US President Joe Biden is working to use all remaining funds allocated to support Ukraine for their intended purpose before the end of his term, White House press secretary Karin Jean-Pierre said.

She assured that the current government will do everything possible to use all remaining funds from the aid package that was approved by Congress in April of this year.

According to a recent poll, a majority of Americans favor continued support for Ukraine and support allowing Kyiv to use American weapons for strikes inside Russia.
