The United States refused to impose preventive sanctions against Russia: the reason is named

Washington Secretary of State Anthony Blinken explained the U.S. position of reluctance to impose preventive sanctions against Russia, despite the fact that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the United States and its allies to punish Moscow for the massive troop buildup along Ukraine’s borders.

Blinken defended the US position. He made a statement regarding the sanctions on  CNN  on Sunday, January 23.

“When it comes to sanctions, the purpose of these sanctions is to deter Russian aggression,” he said.

So, according to Blinken, if sanctions are introduced now, they will lose their deterrent effect.

“Everything we do, including jointly with Europe, creates huge consequences for Russia, which are calculated to take into account the influence of President Putin, as well as to deter and dissuade him from aggressive actions, even if we are engaged in diplomacy at the same time” Blinken said.

Recall that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz  called  for “caution” in possible sanctions against the Russian Federation because of Ukraine.

So, among a number of possible Western sanctions against the government of Vladimir Putin, Germany may be stopping the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, subject to an invasion of Ukraine. However, according to Scholz, this could exacerbate the crisis in gas supplies to Europe, which led to a sharp rise in energy prices.

  1. This is a big embarrassment to me as an American. Be hopeful Ukraine, that when the election midterms sweep through the United States this year, that Republicans not only take back my country’s Senate and Congress, but that it’s Republicans who understand foreign policy is one of the few areas where government needs ACTIONS, rather than words. In the decade before World War 2, they believed that good diplomacy meant appeasement, but somehow the cajoling wasn’t enough for hitler was it?

    • Yes, the Biden administration has been nothing but a rolling disappointment since day one. I know that the Republicans will sweet away many pathetic leftist, useless, cowardly Democrats in the fall. However, this would be needed now. Then, it might be too late.

  2. Why doesn’t the West admit they don’t give a shit about Ukraine? They never do more than than they feel they have to. This may sound unthankful, but if you have to fence off a superpower which is armed to the teeth you need bigger and modern hardware, not fucking toys. I would like to see Germany or Australia in the same situation as Ukraine. Washington would already threaten with a nuclear war. But slavic people, denounced as subhumans by the nazis, are only good to fuck for $10, but not worthy defending. Any kurdish or syrian asshole ranges higher than my beloved ukrainians!

  3. In the end, it won’t be sanctions that will stop the crime syndicate from attacking, but a well-armed and determined Ukraine. Thus, more important than sanctions now, are weapons now!
