The United States considers the possibility of depriving Russia of the status of a country with a market economy

The US Department of Commerce is checking whether Russia meets the status of a country with a market economy.

According to the ministry’s statement posted on the government’s website, the evidence needed for such verification was provided by American companies importing ammonium nitrate from Russia .

Interested parties, the Commerce Department said, must provide written comments by 30 August 2021.

Russia was recognized by the United States as a market economy in 2002. Countries with such a status are not subject to a number of foreign trade restrictions, for example, in relation to them, according to American laws, it is more difficult to impose anti-dumping duties.

A country with a market economy, the US Department of Commerce reminds in its statement, must meet certain criteria , which are spelled out in the Tariffs Act, passed in 1930 and currently in force.

  1. Mafia land is a warehouse for raw materials and thus is no real market economy. It isn’t even a real country but a huge crime syndicate and terrorist organization.

    • The Soviet Union was once described as a 3rd world country with nukes. That also adequately describes Putinist Russia.

      • That’s right. Nothing has changed since then except that the country has shrunk in size and influence.
