The U.S. should immediately provide Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles with a range of 1500 miles

The U.S. is now allowing Ukraine to fire longer range missiles into Russia. This is good news. As is the policy change to allow US contractors to enter Ukraine while under DOD contracts.   These are being couched as “de-Trumping” the war.  Forget about who the next President is- these approvals should have been made 2.5 years ago.

Ukraine is still getting attacked by hundreds of cruise missiles fired from Russian strategic bombers. This has to stop.

The U.S. should immediately provide Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles with a range of 1500 miles.  Notify Russia that these Tomahawks are not to be fired into Russia.  Unless Russia fires a cruise missile or Shaheed from Russia into Ukraine. This is NOT escalation. Under the laws of land warfare, this is legal and it is considered “proportional response” not escalation.  Further, Ukraine will only target Russian military targets.  Russia intentionally attacks Childrens hospitals and purely civilian targets. These are war crimes.

If we provide Tomahawks, they will take out the rest of rhe Black Sea fleet.

Russia will stop launching cruise missiles and Shaheeds, like they did today.

This is the next weapons system needed.

Since the U.S. election, LI has been buzzing even more than usual. Here is Robin Horsfall with a very unusual departure from his usual military analysis:

Biden has sixty-two days to decide the direction of the entire world.

President Biden has a dilemma. He is in power until 20th January 2025. How should he use that time and power for the benefit of the USA?
Trump and Putin have outmanoeuvred him, he knows there is something unfathomable about the election result, he knows there is no going back. If he allows the peaceful transfer of power, (as he is legally obliged to do), he will leave the USA in the hands of a fascist who is obviously in the thrall of his nation’s greatest enemy, Vladimir Putin.

It is not clear whether Putin controls Trump with the promise of a return to power, or whether he has something far more damning to use as blackmail. The head of Russian intelligence recently stated that Trump had a debt to pay.

Putin aide Nikolay Patrushev said “to achieve success in the election, Donald Trump relied on certain forces to which he has corresponding obligations. As a responsible person, he will be obliged to fulfil them.”

If that is the case, what they hold must be something so terrible that someone as shameless as Trump knows it would destroy him. (I leave that to your imagination). The recent release of nude pictures of Melania Trump by Russia was a warning of what they are holding in reserve.

Trump can withdraw support for Ukraine and allow Putin to gain victory from the jaws of defeat. However, if Europe stands up, the US withdrawal will not be enough to defeat Ukraine.

What can Biden do?

If Biden does nothing the Constitution will come crumbling down. The US legal system seems helpless against money. In any other country Trump would have been imprisoned, made bankrupt, or simply executed for treason. The US legal system lost all credibility when the Supreme Court supported Trump’s claims for Presidential immunity.

Biden could use that immunity and arrest Trump’s team. Shift them to Guantanamo and charge them with treason. He won’t. Biden believes in the Constitution, Trump does not. Biden believes in the Rule of Law, Trump does not. It is not viable for one party to obey rules when rules are not supported by force of law. Biden’s dilemma is whether to ignore the foundations his life has been built on to save his nation.

Taking Trump’s ‘elected’ team into custody would cause a violent response, but with Trump, Bannon, Stone, Flynn and Musk out of the frame it might be controllable. The alternative is to leave the USA to suffer the consequences of its final democratic election. To allow arbitrary arrests of anyone who questions the new dictatorship, who writes, speaks, or is associated with ‘enemies of the state.’ Which is what Biden would also be doing in such a situation. Lose, lose?

Trump doesn’t care, he will enrich himself, play golf and die, leaving the ruins of the USA behind him.

Biden has sixty-two days to decide the direction of the entire world.

Can he put aside everything he stands for?
Should he?

  1. “Notify Russia that these Tomahawks are not to be fired into Russia. Unless Russia fires a cruise missile or Shaheed from Russia into Ukraine.”

Exactly. This is the same logic that should be applied to the surely now inevitable (?) entry of European ground troops into Ukraine. They can be used to guard key cities Kyiv, Odesa and Mykolaiv, with the standing orders that they will attack orcs only if themselves attacked.

  2. “Trump and Putin have outmanoeuvred him,”

    A Teletubby can outmaneuver Biden.

There is so much that can be done for Ukraine, so many things that could be sent to the country, but Biden preferred chasing the ice cream truck instead.

    • Tomahawks would be a great deterrent. No need to use them, just announce, “one more attack on civilian infrastructure and all hell breaks loose.”
