The Western world is on the verge of the greatest diplomatic disaster of our time, the publication says.

Putin and Trump are leading Europe to a geopolitical catastrophe and Ukraine to a significant restriction of its sovereignty. In particular, they are talking about the lifting of sanctions against Russia and the expropriation of Ukrainian resources , writes the British The Telegraph .

The author of the publication notes that the new version of the agreement on Ukrainian minerals, transferred by the Americans to Kyiv this week, effectively closes Ukraine’s path to the EU and places a significant part of the Ukrainian economy under US control. At the same time, Washington and Moscow are working to dismantle the Western sanctions system against Russia.

The Telegraph specifically refers to a publication by the German newspaper Bild, which wrote in early March that Americans and Russians have been negotiating in Switzerland for several weeks about resuming the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. Russia will get the restoration of gas exports to Europe, and the US will get part of the ownership in the gas pipeline and earn money from pumping Russian gas.

The next step towards a diplomatic disaster for the West was the latest talks between Russia and the United States in Saudi Arabia. Following the meeting, Washington offered to help Russia resume exports of its agricultural products and fertilizers to the world market. At the same time, the Russians want the West to completely lift all sanctions against this segment of the Russian economy, including restoring access to the Swift payment system for Rosselkhozbank.

However, The Telegraph sees the biggest threat in the fact that the entire European sanctions regime against Russia is currently held hostage by Hungary and Slovakia, whose leaders are loyal to both Putin and Trump. In July, the EU is due to vote again on extending all sanctions imposed against Russia for another six months. Since voting in the EU is carried out by consensus, it is enough for at least one country to vote against and the decision will not be adopted. Then all EU sanctions against Russia will automatically cease to apply, and Moscow will immediately be able to withdraw its 200 billion euros frozen in Europe.
