The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court refused to send Trukhanov to a pre-trial detention center (updated)

The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court refused to satisfy the petition of the prosecutor’s office, which demanded that the mayor of Odessa Gennady Trukhanov be sent to a pre-trial detention center with the possibility of being released on bail of UAH 120 million.

Instead, he was elected a preventive measure in the form of one bail – UAH 30,213,300. In addition, the mayor’s passport will be taken away.

Trukhanov must post a deposit within five days. If this does not happen, there will be a new trial and another measure of restraint – most likely, more severe.

As a reminder, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine announced suspicion to 16 Ukrainian citizens, including Gennady Trukhanov, on October 6 this year. They are suspected of creating a criminal organization that actually controlled the city government and acted in several directions: the transfer of land for development to related developers; illegal privatization; embezzlement of budget funds. The defendants in the case deny their guilt.

The prosecutor’s office demanded that Trukhanov be taken into custody with the possibility of bail in the amount of 120 million hryvnias.

UPDATED AT 14:23. Gennady Trukhanov intends to appeal against the decision of VAKS on the appointment of bail. He said this to reporters at the exit from the courthouse.

“I don’t have that kind of money. Will seek. Businessmen? Partners? There are acquaintances of businessmen, but no partners. In this case, it may be unfortunately. We will look for money, because we need to comply with the decree. I look forward to an appeal, ”he said.

UPDATED AT 14:33. The Odessa mayor believes that the court’s decision to hand over his passports will not become an obstacle for his business trips to other countries.

According to him, he has two passports for traveling abroad. This is due to the lengthy procedures for obtaining visas: while one passport is being processed, the second is used during the trip.

Gennady Trukhanov said that he would undoubtedly comply with the court’s decision and hand over both passports. At the same time, he hopes that, if the need arises, he will be able to obtain a passport at the request of a lawyer and go on business trips abroad.

    • With a corrupt mafia clown as prez Ukraine is facing multiple assault. Luckily this oligarchic junta won’t last forever. Walking dead will never last as long as the living…

  1. This certainly won’t help the television clown’s falling popularity. Zelensky winning the next election is already as likely as Pew-tin managing to keep his paws off of little boys’ wieners.
