The Sumy region is initiating the development of a draft Concept of the State Target Program for the Development of Hemp for the period up to 2025.

This was reported  by the National Industrial Portal with reference to AgroPortal.ua .

The order to establish a working group was issued by the Head of the Sumy Regional State Administration Dmytro Zhyvytskyi.

As noted, Sumy region is one of the leaders in the cultivation of technical hemp in Ukraine. The share of hemp crops in the Sumy region is 22.2% of the total area under this crop in Ukraine. There are two institutes in the Sumy region that are engaged in the selection and seed production of technical hemp. Hemp fiber processing companies also operate in the region.

“In Ukraine, there is no developed in-depth processing of hemp raw materials, and the needs of the domestic market for such products are met through imports,” – explained in the regional state administration.

The first meeting of the working group (online) is scheduled for next week to discuss the draft concept.
