Russian military bloggers continue to acknowledge the successful counterattacks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Lyman area and harshly criticize the culture of lies that has spread among the occupation forces. The situation for the Russian troops on this front is rapidly deteriorating, forcing them to retreat from a number of forward positions.
Russian military correspondents admit that Ukrainian forces have been conducting successful counterattacks in the Lyman direction for several months. This is reported by the Institute for the Study of War.
“Good reports” despite the reality on the front
The successes of Ukrainian troops are happening contrary to the “optimistic picture” systematically painted by the Russian military command and propaganda media. There is growing dissatisfaction in the Z-community with the so-called “beautiful reports” – a term used by war correspondents to denote large-scale disinformation and systematic distortion of the real state of affairs on the front lines.
Russians are calling for an “absolute ban” on this practice, as the fictional victories increasingly diverge from the real state of affairs.
Military propagandist Mykhailo Zvinchuk effectively refuted Putin’s words about the capture of Svyatogorsk. He also complained that the Russian army on that section of the front was not advancing, but retreating.
Operational stalemate for Russian troops
A striking example of disinformation was the situation around Svyatogorsk (northwest of Liman). Shortly after dictator Vladimir Putin publicly declared Russian control over this settlement, Ukrainian forces demonstrated full control over the city. Russian military bloggers were forced to acknowledge the Ukrainian side’s denial, expressing indignation at the false statements of Russian officials.
Analysts emphasize that systematic lies create direct operational risks for the occupiers themselves. Russian units cannot request artillery support for areas that the command has previously reported as “captured”.
Also, in conditions of total lies, Russian units in adjacent areas plan their operations based on an inaccurate and falsified assessment of the battlefield.
The real scale of the successes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Currently, the exact boundaries of the front line in the Lyman direction remain unclear due to the limited amount of data from open sources.
ISW notes that their current mapping methodology likely underestimates the true scale of the Ukrainian forces’ advance . The institute’s experts emphasize that as new public data becomes available, the full scope of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ successes in the ongoing counteroffensive will become apparent.
Recall, Putin stated that Russia must at least establish full control over Donbas . According to officials and analysts, if Russia does not achieve this goal by the fall of 2027, the likelihood of negotiations will increase, but key decisions must be made in advance.
As OBOZ.UA reported, the Russian military command ordered the Russian army contingent to capture the Donetsk region by the end of 2026, but the occupiers have already missed 15 of the set deadlines.
