The multipurpose module “Science” successfully docked to the International Space Station. This is reported by TASS.
The docking to the Russian module of the ISS Zvezda took place in an automatic mode; an unscheduled space walk was not required to assist in the docking.
The Proton-M launch vehicle with the Nauka module was launched on July 21. The next day, it became known about problems with the engines of the module due to which there was a risk that it would not be able to reach the station. “Roskosmos” then reported that experts are checking the functionality of the module’s equipment.
After the docking, the head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, admitted that “I had to worry for the first three days” due to the loss of telemetry and promised to “unconditionally analyze” what had happened.
The development of the Science module began in 1995. It was originally planned that it will be launched to the ISS in 2007, but the launch of the module has been repeatedly postponed.
