On the night of November 19, the Ryazan (Novomichurinsk) TPP was hit. It is one of the largest thermal power plants in the Central Energy System of Russia.
According to preliminary data, the strike was carried out by the Ukrainian Defense Forces. This was reported by the Telegram channel Exilenova+.
“Tonight, the Ryazan (Novomichurin) GRES, one of the largest thermal power plants in the Central Energy System of the Russian Federation, was hit by the forces of the Defense Forces of Ukraine,” the report says.
The facility plays an important role in providing electricity to the central regions of the Russian Federation and is connected to high-voltage lines of 220 and 500 kV. Videos have appeared online showing a large-scale fire on the territory of the energy hub.
Explosions were heard over Novomichurinsk, where the Ryazan GRES is located, at night. Local Telegram channels and Russian media published footage of flames engulfing part of the station’s infrastructure.
Official Russian agencies traditionally refrain from commenting.
As a reminder, the occupation administration in the temporarily occupied part of Donetsk region introduced a state of emergency after strikes on the Zuivska and Starobeshivska TPPs on the night of November 18. The power outage shut down boiler houses and water treatment plants, and left about half a million people without electricity. This is the largest disruption to the region’s power system in recent months.
Earlier, OBOZ.UA reported that the Ukrainian Forces of Unmanned Systems confirmed that it was their units that carried out the operation against the two largest thermal power plants in the region. The commander of the unit, Robert Brovdi Magyar, stated: “The Magyar birds were operating on the two main thermal power plants in the region. The Zuyivska and Starobeshivska TPPs were hit.” He released a video of the strikes and noted that the units are continuing their work in other areas.
