The cars will be produced in three classes: class D sedan, class C crossover and class D crossover.
At the exhibition “Digital Industry of Industrial Russia” a new line of Volga cars was presented for the first time , however, all the cars turned out to be actually Chinese developments. Russian media report this.
“Where is your steering wheel made, Chinese? I would like the steering wheel to be Russian. It’s not as difficult as localizing the box and all the other elements,” said Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, who visited the exhibition.
It is reported that the Volga C40 sedan turned out to be the de facto Chinese Changan Raeton Plus. The Volga K30 crossover is a clone of the Changan Oshan X5 Plus, and the other crossover, the Volga K40, is a Russian copy of the Changan Uni-Z.

The new cars are distinguished from the original Chinese models by their chrome radiator grille, which is said to be a reference to the Soviet GAZ-24 model. All three new cars used a 188 horsepower gasoline engine and a seven-speed automatic transmission.
The cars received driver assistance systems, and services that were popular among Russian car owners were integrated into the multimedia system. The production of new Volgas is planned to begin in 2024, and from 2025 – in full cycle mode.

Russian auto industry: what’s interesting
It was previously reported that due to the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine and sanctions imposed against the Russian Federation, the production of passenger cars in Russia in 2022 fell to a historic low.
After foreign automobile concerns left the country, passenger car production decreased by 67%, to 450 thousand units.
However, the Russian authorities are trying to popularize the “domestic” autopor, which is now actually Chinese. As previously reported, Putin ordered his officials to drive Ladas and Moskviches.
