This decision creates the potential for degradation of clinical practice.

Russian authorities have announced a shortage of 30 thousand doctors. In district hospitals, the shortage of medical staff reaches about 50%.

According to the Ministry of Defense, citing intelligence data, the problem with the shortage of personnel is caused by the war and the fact that doctors prefer to work in the private sector. In 2022 alone, 2% of Russian doctors and medical workers left the country to avoid conscription.

According to January 2024 estimates, the number of doctors had fallen by 7,500 over the previous 15 months. The situation was exacerbated by long working hours and low wages. According to the Center for European Policy Analysis, to solve this problem, the Russian Federation is recruiting doctors from African countries with limited qualifications.

“Major resources and financial commitments to support Russia’s war in Ukraine are negatively impacting a number of civilian sectors that serve the Russian population. The number of medical workers in Russia will continue to decline throughout 2024. The use of external medical personnel with limited qualification testing creates the potential for degradation of clinical practice,” the British Ministry of Defense notes.

Consequences of the war in Ukraine for the Russian Federation

CNN wrote at the beginning of this year that although Putin boasts of resistance to sanctions, the Russian economy faces a bleak future . Since February 2022, Western governments have imposed sanctions on more than 15,000 Russian entities and individuals. However, restrictions take time to have an effect. Russia continues to sell oil and other commodities.

However, Ukraine began to attack this sector as well. The head of the SBU Vasily Malyuk noted that due to Ukrainian drones hitting Russian refineries, oil production and refining in the Russian Federation was reduced by 12%.

Russia has already increased imports of gasoline from Belarus after attacks on its oil refineries . However, in order for every Russian to feel the devastating consequences for the economy of the aggressor country in a practical sense, another half of the capacity needs to be destroyed.
